Make-up - The rehearsal room lockdown style
Lockdown changed the way Make-up was directed and developed. It couldn't be actor and director meeting up in rehearsal rooms for lengthy afternoons to work on scenes and explore aspects of the character, so what could we do? While Zoom was of course called into action for meet-ups, discussions and notes, we also did a lot of recordings of different scenes, seeing the various ways they could be played and how that changed the dynamics of the play.
It gave us a chance to look at the way lines were said and the motivations behind them, stripped away from physical movement. It also provided an interesting record of the evolution of a play that a normal rehearsal process doesn't allow.
These are a selection of the recordings. We released a few of them in 2020 on days when the play was due to have been performed, but others haven't been seen till now. They're not polished final takes, and in some instances they might not even have made it into the final version of the play, so think of them as a grab bag to dive into and see a play in development.
We hope you like them and they whet your appetite to see the finished product.
