An(other) Inspector Calls
Easter weekend 2020. The height of lockdown. Not that it has stopped the Gower family from gathering at their Highland retreat to celebrate their daughter’s engagement to the son of the founder of one of America’s largest pharmaceutical companies. Their celebrations are cut short when Detective Inspector Anne Gould arrives unannounced. She’s not there to question them about the breach of lockdown rules. She is investigating the death of a foreign woman found in an Edinburgh flat with her three month old baby by her side.
How could any of the Gower family be connected to someone like that? Very easily, as DI Gould’s investigation reveals.
An(other) Inspector Calls is a new play that asks whether anything has really changed since Priestley’s seminal work.
‘Will leave audiences informed and moved about how the headlines impact real people in real ways.’ Bush Theatre Literary Department
'Moseley’s answer to Priestley seeks to make it even more up-to-date. Always the product of careful consideration. Anyone who knows the original play can tell exactly what is going to happen, and the interest is in seeing how it plays out. This is done with considerable skill' AllEdinburgh Theatre

Make-up
Step into the green room with Lady Christina as she leaves the stage after another performance in another venue above another pub. It could be your last chance to see her, but then she's said that so many times before, why should you believe her this time?
Because tonight is different. Drag has become a drag. Christina is tired of metro-sexual audiences looking for something a little risqué that they can tell their mothers about, she's tired of young drag queens who make it look so easy, and she's tired of having to put on the make up and become someone else every night.
But what's buried beneath the make-up? Chris Laneghan has been Lady Christina for so long that he doesn't know where she ends and he begins. How can he give up being her, if there's no him to go back to?
'The script is gripping and intense. Moj Taylor gives us a powerful set of mental images through his quietly angry performance. Layer upon layer is warmly/brutally exposed and we learn and appreciate more and more what has become a muddled life. We come out challenged, disturbed, not quite angry: it’s a sharply-observed piece which raises questions, answers some, and raises more.' Buxton Fringe Review
'A noble and thought-provoking piece, starring an excellent Moj Taylor as Chris and his troubled drag persona, Lady Christina. Moseley and Taylor capture well the tortures and fears of Chris/Christina as she emerges from a performance, offering some poignant dressing-room reflections. A skilled and successful drama, it nudges you to new insight and understanding.' The Wee Review
'A coruscating 50 minutes. Moj Taylor creates a highly interesting if not thoroughly likeable performer, who seems to cover a not entirely successful career with bitterness and gall. A totally believable character, who has a lot to say about Queer identity, personality, individualism and the freedom to be who you are. Well worth a visit.' Scene Magazine

A Beginner's Guide to Populism
‘A Beginner’s Guide of Populism’ is able to take a fairly worn out topic and give it a fresh face, it’s incredibly refreshing and thought provoking, and somehow manages to be funny too!' EdFringe Review
'Expertly conceived, written and executed by a team who plainly have an eye for the socio-political zeitgeist. Echoes of the present resonate throughout – all delivered with wry humour and witty lines.' Ian Hamilton - Buxton Fringe Review
'A timely production. It lampoons populism and its insular message with great verve, but without offering simple solutions. The writing is pointed and telling, and manages to note many of the strategies feeding the rise of populism without feeling didactic.' Fringe Guru

After We Danced
'If you are looking for a play that has warmth, examines the human condition, with some fine lines and performances from talented actors, then this could be the new play for you.' ***** Lichfield Live/Remote Goat
'A light romantic confection with a hopeful gleam in its eye and it achieves exactly what it sets out to do. Charming, well-acted, well written and unfussily performed. Exactly the type of play you can imagine being in the canon of am-dram companies for many years to come' TV Bomb
After We Danced is sweet and romantic but doesn't veer towards the saccharine; instead it delivers a satisfying, well-rounded tale that is uplifting and believable. The strong cast inject a sense of energy and innocence into Andy Moseley's carefully balanced script' British Theatre Guide

Casual Encounters
'An exploration of marriage, relationships, gender roles, class, mores and more. Each is interwoven into a strong piece of theatre. The acting is assured and the direction crisp. I cancertainly recommend it to you' Buxton Fringe Review 'Simultaneously timely and timeless. Lovely performances from all the five cast members. Scott-Lucas' ageing horndog was an excellent realisation of a mid-life crisis. Eyers and Meyer both exude a cocksure menace as they interrupt the Rogers' world. All led by a diamond-sharp direction and story structure.' View from the Gods BUY THE BOOK: Casual Encounters is available worldwide through Smith Scripts on E book |
